SMS Import / Export App
SMS Import / Export imports and exports SMS and MMS messages, call logs, and contacts from and to JSON files. (Contacts import and export are currently functional but considered experimental.) It does not require root.The primary author of SMS Import / Export is Thomas More. Others have contributed code and translations. The software is copyright 2021-2022, and is released under the GNU General Public Licence version 3.

SMS Import / Export is a sibling project to sms-db, a Linux tool to build an SQLite database out of collections of SMS and MMS messages in various formats. sms-db can import JSON files created by SMS Import / Export, and it can export its database to JSON files that can be imported by SMS Import / Export.
What's new in 2.12.0-standard
- Updated Minimum Android Requirement: The standard version now requires Android 7.0 (API level 24) or higher.
- Overhauled Scheduled Exports: Added a custom "Export interval (days)" setting alongside displays showing the dates and times of the last successful and next scheduled export.
- Optimized MMS Export Compression: Added a default setting to avoid re-compressing already compressed data during MMS exports to speed up the process.
- Performance Improvements: Implemented multiple under-the-hood enhancements to improve overall app responsiveness and speed.
- Restricted Messages Warning: Added an in-app alert that notifies users when restricted permissions prevent the export of encrypted RCS messages.
- New Language Support: Added Czech translation.
